Safer marriage-proposal conversations

Practical boundaries for online introductions, photographs, personal contact and first meetings.

Take time before trusting

A well-written profile, a face check or a paid membership does not establish someone’s identity or intentions. Look for consistency over time, ask respectful questions and stop if a conversation feels pressuring.

Keep financial and account details private

Do not share passwords, one-time codes, account access, identity-document copies or bank details with a new contact. Requests for urgent money, secrecy or account access are reasons to pause the introduction.

Choose what to share

Avoid putting your phone number, exact address, full birth date or private documents in public introductions or article comments. Agree before sharing another person’s photo or involving relatives.

Plan a first meeting

Agree on a public setting, keep your own travel arrangements and let someone you trust know your plan. Either person can postpone or leave. A family introduction also needs the adults’ consent.

Report concerning activity

When signed in, use the reporting action on the relevant member profile to describe what happened. Keep your report specific. Reporting is not an emergency service; if you face immediate danger, seek appropriate local assistance.

Use controls thoughtfully

Review the actual privacy and messaging settings available in your account. No setting or automated check replaces your own boundaries. Read the privacy page before uploading sensitive information.
